To honor the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, “Essere Leonardo da Vinci, un’intervista impossibile (Being Leonardo da Vinci, an impossible interview)” directed by Italian screenwriter, director, and actor Massimiliano Finazzer Flory is set to have its premiere in the country during the 22nd Cine Europa this November 19, 2019 at 7:30 PM at the Cinematheque Centre Manila.

PH Animated Series Project Makes it to Animation Workshop in Spain

Spain's fifth edition of the Bridging the Gap (BTG) Animation Lab has selected Filipino animated TV series project “Alphabesties” by Neema B. Ejercito to take part in its intensive workshop sessions this July 14 to 20, 2019 in Tenerife, Spain. Produced by Toast & Brew Studios, “Alphabesties” is the only Filipino project chosen for this year’s Lab.

French Film Festival to Showcase PH and French Cinema

Now on its 24th year, the French Film Festival in the country started last June 12, 2019 as organized by the Embassy of France in the Philippines and supported by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). The Festival offers an alternative form of cinema with a lineup of 15 contemporary French films that explore the depths of human relationships and the importance of family.

For the first time in 37 years, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) joins the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) in co-organizing the prestigious Luna Awards, which is regarded as the Philippine counterpart of the Academy Awards. The partnership between FDCP and FAP shows their commitment to work hand-in-hand in ensuring competence and excellence in the Philippine movie industry. The Luna Awards has a distinct voting process because nominees are voted for by their peers—nominees per category are voted for by industry professionals from the same sector.

FDCP to Honor Veteran Actress and Legend, Anita Linda

In line with the celebration of Sandaan: the One Hundred Years of Philippine Cinema and Mother’s Day, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will honor the contributions of veteran actress Anita Linda to the Philippine cinema at the “Sandaan: Dunong ng Isang Ina” event on June 16, 2019 at 2:30 PM at the Cinematheque Centre Manila where she will be given an achievement award for her contributions as an actress and mentor to the film industry. “The Life of Anita Linda: An Exhibit” will also be featured at the Cinematheque highlighting the various stages of her life as an actress, including her notable films and roles, as well as memorabilia from her life and career.

First Philippine Film Festival in Singapore to be held by PH Embassy in SG

In celebration of the 50 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and the Philippines, as well as the 100 Years of Philippine Cinema, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore has mounted the inaugural Philippine Film Festival. Pinoy and foreign cinephiles are in for a treat from November 12 to 15 as there is a special screening of “Mr. and Mrs. Cruz” as well as free screenings of “Seven Sundays,” “Bakwit Boys” and “Siargao” at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House of National University of Singapore (NUS).

'Oda Sa Wala' to Compete at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

Filipino filmmaker Dwein Baltazar’s “Oda sa Wala” joins the diverse selection of outstanding films in competition at the 54th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF), making it the only competing Filipino film in the prestigious film festival for 2019. Established in 1946, the KVIFF is the largest film festival in the Czech Republic, the leading film event across Central and Eastern Europe, and one of the oldest film festivals in the world. The KVIFF shares the same category as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, San Sebastian, Moscow, Montreal, Shanghai, and Tokyo as one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals.
