French Filipino Film Starring Gloria Diaz to be Featured In Cannes Classics

A restoration of the 1982 French-Filipino film Cinq et la peau (Five and the Skin) starring Gloria Diaz, Bembol Roco, Philip Salvador and Joel Lamangan will be screened at Cannes Classics in the 71st Cannes Film Festival on May 14, 2018. The whole film was entirely shot in the Philippines and was featured in the Cannes' Un Certain Regard 36 years ago.

‘Verdict’ Claims Netpac Award at the Hainan Film Festival

Raymund Ribay Gutierrez’s debut feature film Verdict has claimed the NETPAC Award at this year’s Hainan Island International Film Festival. It was one of three Filipino films that screened at the 2nd HIIFF, alongside Brillante Mendoza’s Mindanao and Grace Simbulan’s documentary A is for Agustin.

Filipino film director and editor Carlo Francisco Manatad’s first feature film project Whether the Weather is Fine (Kun Maupay Man It Panahon) received financing from Aide aux cinémas du monde (France’s World Cinema Support) and Institut Français worth 130,000 euros.

2019 FAP Luna Awards: A toast to the best in Philippine Cinema

The greatest and brightest names in Philippine Cinema were acclaimed at the 37th Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) Luna Awards Night held on November 30. The biggest winner of the night was “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” of TBA Studios and Globe Studios, which won Best Motion Picture, Best Sound Design for Albert Michael Idioma and Alex Tomboc, and Best Musical Score for its director, screenwriter, editor, and musical scorer, Jerrold Tarog.
